How it all began:
In 2005, Margie Serri and Mike Evans began contacting animal shelters across the eastern part of the United States. They hoped that they would find placement for the homeless dogs in Stark County where they could be adopted. Serri and Evans would transport the dogs to accepting shelters. In 2007, Serri and Evans were told about PetSmart Charities and the Rescue Waggin. Within a year, the Rescue Waggin’ began rescuing puppies and dogs from Stark County, taking them to shelters where they could be adopted.
About Friends of Stark Pound
Friends of Stark Pound is an all-volunteer 501c3 organization whose mission is to reduce the population of homeless dogs at the Stark County Dog Warden Division by providing funding for spay/neuter procedures as well as basic veterinary care. In addition to medical care, we educate the public on the importance of adoption and responsible pet ownership. We work in cooperation with the Stark County Dog Warden Division’s staff to significantly enhance the quality of life for the homeless puppies and dogs and to increase their opportunities for placement through adoptions or rescue groups. We are extremely grateful for the continuous support and involvement of our community.
Friends of Stark Pound encourages the public to visit the Pound to meet the dogs currently available for adoption. Please visit the Stark County Dog Warden Division on petfinder.com to see dogs at the facility.
